AN INDEPENDENT STARTING POINT

Dictionary & notices

Operated by Hansan Investments LLC. This is an independent site, not affiliated with wordunscrambler.me.

Word Unscrambler uses the English Speller Database (ESDB), formerly SCOWL. Our list contains 78,575 words from American English, size 60, variant level 1. It is a spelling resource, not an official tournament or game dictionary.

We retain lowercase A–Z words with 2–17 letters. Proper names with capitals, accented words, punctuation, abbreviations, and special categories are excluded. Some words may be specialist, archaic, or offensive. There is no content suitability filter.

What a search means

You can enter 15 letter tiles and up to 2 additional blanks. Every letter can be used only as many times as it appears in your rack. A blank (? or *) supplies one missing letter. A word may use some or all tiles by default. Use every tile restricts matches to the full rack length, including blanks. All filters apply together. “Contains” means a consecutive sequence. Includes letters is unordered and counts repeats: ee requires at least two E’s. Excludes letters removes any word with a listed letter. These filters do not supply extra rack tiles. Results are grouped by length, longest first, with A–Z or high-to-low letter points within each group; score ties are alphabetical. Long groups reveal 60 words at a time.

English A–Z input only; accents, non-Latin text, emoji, and Unicode lookalikes are rejected rather than silently changed. Uppercase ASCII is accepted. Spaces between rack letters are ignored.

Fixed-position letter patterns

A pattern such as c_t matches exactly three letters: C, one unknown letter, then T. Underscores each represent one position. Leave the rack empty to search the dictionary by pattern, or supply a rack to require both constraints. Fixed pattern letters do not add rack tiles. A pattern uses 2–17 positions; a conflicting length or another filter can produce no matches. Use every tile requires a rack.

Letter points

Optional points add common English tile values. Blanks score zero; letters supplied by blanks are underlined. When a letter repeats, available letter tiles are assigned first, from left to right. Without a rack, pattern matches receive the normal value of every letter: a pattern underscore is not a zero-point tile. For example, quiz scores 22 with pattern qu_z alone and 11 with rack qu??. There are no board bonuses, multipliers, or game-specific rules.

Privacy & your choices

Hansan Investments LLC operates this website. Matching happens in your browser; there are no app accounts, paid APIs or server-side searches. Search state lives after the # in the URL. It is included when you copy a link and may remain in browser history. Anyone with that link can see the letters and filters.

Google Analytics is optional and off by default. No Analytics script or request loads before you choose Allow analytics. Declining does not limit the word finder. Use Analytics settings in the footer to change your choice or turn analytics off. Withdrawal reloads the page to stop the loaded library; your search stays in the URL. It stops future collection and removes this site's analytics cookies, but does not delete information already sent.

If you opt in, Google receives basic visit and engagement information, such as which of our two pages you visit, browser and device details, and cookie identifiers. Google also receives your IP address as part of the network connection. We configure Analytics with a clean page address: no URL query, search fragment, letters, filters, results or referring page is included. We do not enable Google signals or advertising personalization. Google's Privacy Policy explains Google's processing.

We remember your yes or no choice in this browser's local storage for up to 180 days. Analytics cookies, named with the wordunscrambler prefix, are configured for up to 180 days and are only created after permission. Clearing browser storage resets your choice. If storage is blocked, a choice applies only to the current page. Different browsers and hostnames have separate choices.

The hosting service still processes technical requests needed to deliver and secure the site, whether or not you allow analytics. Our page referrer policy sends only this site's origin, without a page path, query or search fragment, on cross-origin HTTPS requests. The Analytics loader uses its own no-referrer policy.

Advertising: setup in progress

Advertising is not active in this release. Google AdSense ownership metadata and ads.txt identify our publisher account. This site does not load the AdSense advertising script or request ads. Publishing this notice does not enable advertising or change your Analytics choice.

We are preparing Google AdSense and Google's certified consent manager. If advertising is enabled in a later release, Google and the advertising partners listed in the consent message may process device and browser information, page information, cookie identifiers and your IP address for advertising and related measurement. The approved configuration currently contains 198 advertising partners, with no automatic additions. The consent message will identify the partners and purposes. Some purposes may be presented on the basis of legitimate interests, with controls to object. This describes the planned advertising setup, not processing that this release has activated.

Before activation, we will verify the applicable consent messages and controls. The European message is configured to offer Consent, Do not consent and Manage options; a persistent control will let you reopen it and change or withdraw your choices. In applicable US regions, Google's Do not sell or share my personal information link will provide opt-out controls. These controls are not yet available on this site because advertising remains off. The word finder will remain available when optional processing is rejected. Advertising choices will stay separate from optional Analytics.

The planned consent manager requires Google scripts. Loading those scripts can contact Google and may read existing Google-domain cookies even while ad requests are paused. Pausing ads is not the same as preventing all contact with Google. Once active, changes to advertising choices will apply to future processing; they will not erase data already sent. We will update this notice when the verified advertising integration is activated. Read Google's Privacy Policy for information about Google's processing.

ESDB is derived from many sources, most of which are in the Public Domain.
Data from the Corpus of Contemporary American English (COCA) was also used.

All data from COCA comes from 3-gram data that is not freely available;
however, the usage is within the rights given by the NDA that was signed when
purchasing the data. More information on COCA is available at
https://www.english-corpora.org/coca/.

The primary source of words for ESDB comes from 12dicts and ENABLE2K. Both
are in the Public Domain, but Alan Beale <biljir@pobox.com> deserves special
credit as he is the author of 12dicts and a major contributor to ENABLE2K. In
addition, he gave me an incredible amount of feedback and created a number of
special lists in order to help improve the overall quality of ESDB.

If you are using an official speller dictionary created by ESDB that is not
Australian English, then no additional copyright applies and including the
notice before the === is sufficient.

If you are using the Australian English dictionary or a wordlist that uses the 'D'
SPELLING code and/or the 'AU' REGION code, the copyright after '=== AU' applies.

If you are using a generated word list larger than 80, the copyright
after '=== UKACD' applies.

If you are distributing the database or results from the
database that is not a speller dictionary or generated word list, then both
copyrights may apply depending on the parts you use. In addition, the WordNet
copyright MIGHT apply as WordNet was one of many sources used for the initial
POS assignment.
